Bonifacio - Porto Vecchio

General

Pretty easy stage (if no wind!). On this stage, you are driving frequently through old forest areas, which burned down. If the sun is burning heavily, you would be very happy if there would still be some trees...
Forest fires are still a big problem in Corsica. Thousands of hectares of forest is getting destroyed every year. The reason for this is carelessness but also arson ism for getting forest free areas for sheep or for construction.
The dry vegetation is starting to burn very easily. Therefore, it's also a duty for each traveler to pay attention and especially not to throw any smoking stuff, glass or cans (and garbage in general) away into the green.
A very simply campsite is situated just outside of Bonifacio on the left side of the street. However, is also pretty noisy because of the nearby street. A stroll through Bonifacio, especially in the evening, is a must.
Another small campsite is just outside of Porto Vecchio in direction north near a roundabout. Also situated there is a bigger grocery store.
During fall, a lot of campsites are closed. Check before traveling!

On the seaside, the houses are built so closely to the edge that it looks like the next storm is throwing them into the sea. During the centuries, the Genoese fort had to endure several attacks.
