Travel to Sicily by ferry has its special attractions.
The most beautiful is, that you have really time and muse to focus
on the destination. There are different ships to Sicily. The most
comfortable, cheapest but also slowest way is to take a ferry.
It is very recommendable to take a cabin on the ferry
ore at least a sleeping-bag and a mat with. It is very uncomfortable
to sleep in the seats (Poltrone). Especially by bad sea.
The ferrys of SI.RE.MAR leave the port at 9.00 p.m.. The days different
during the season! It is just great (if the weather is well) to
leave the port in darkness and see the highlighted city.
Early in the morning (4.00 a.m.) one will see, as the first of
the aeolien islands, Stromboli. If the weather is well, one will
see a few eruptions of the volcano, a natural lighthouse. The eruptions
last only for a few seconds, sometimes more violent, sometimes less.
Of course there is the possibility to leave in Stromboli, stay
a few days here and then continuing the journey to Sicily. I personally
can only recommend that.
Else the journey continues, with different stops at other islands,
to Milazzo in Sicily.
