Bonifacio:
Well protected by 60 m high cliffs and a narrow entrance against
enemies and winds boats are lying in the port of Bonifacio. Behind
the quay loom the walls of the fort up. They protect the old town
to the seaside. The town is built so near to the edge of the cliffs,
that it sometimes seems as the town must be thrown to the sea during
next storm. During the last centuries the town was besieged severel
times.
Bonifacio is not a cheap place, hotels are quite expensive and rare.
Despite of this a walk through the lanes of the uppertown is an
experience, especially because the great view over the straits of
Sardinia, the steep chalk cliffs and the turquoise-blue water.
Porto Vecchio:
The fortification system of Porto Vecchio was established 1539.
The port is situated in a deep bay where it is quite well protected.
Above there is a small town with a pretty "Piazza". Famous
is Porto-Vecchio also for its long beaches. From Pinarellu in the
north up to the Punta di Rondinara and the bay of Sta. Manza there
are the most beautiful beaches, deep bays, dune beaches with small
lakes. It is a wonderful place for bath holiday-makers and surfers.
Small pre-aged islands are popular targets for boattrips.
