The journey by train or car leads either across France - over the
port of Marseille, Nice or Toulon - or over Italy, of where one
can embark in San Remo, Genova, La Spezia, Livorno or Piombino after
Korsika. This ferry ports have all a railway connection, however
the journey from northern Europe is quite long. But a long drive
and then waiting in a traffic jam is also not particularly pleasant!
From Marseille, Nice and Toulon ferries of the national society
SNCM operate regularly after Ajaccio, Bastia, Propriano, Calvi and
L'Ille Rousse. Most inexpensive is the distance from Nice. From
Italy primarily the private societies Corsica Ferries (after Ajaccio,
Bastia and Calvi) and Navarma Lines (after Bastia) operate, as well
as from Livorno to Bastia the Corsica Marittima and Moby Lines.
Note: For bicycles there are special offers! Tough transporting
a bicycle does not cost anything with Corsica Ferries (status autumn
1997).
